The disappearing coast

Part of a coastal road in Skipsea is being closed for safety reasons following recent erosion to a cliff. East Riding Council's engineers have taken the decision the risk is too high to allow vehicles to continue to use the full length of the road. A 40m stretch of Southfield Lane, which runs along the clifftop between Skipsea and Ulrome, will be closed to vehicles.

It will remain open for pedestrian access, but the council has warned extra care should be taken.
Signs will be erected warning drivers of the closure and the coast will only be accessible via Skipsea or Ulrome in future.
The alternative route between the two villages will be via the B1242 further inland.
Bus companies have been contacted and provision has been made for turning at the end of Mill Lane and Sands Lane.

Another 30 feet disappeared overnight one day last week.

A man of our times

Ferenc Puskas died today, age 79. He truly was one of the great football players of the 20th century. His goalscoring records must surely be one of the greatest on record and perhaps one that will never be beaten. When he came to Wembley in 1953, no one in Britain had seen ball skills like his before. His stunning footballing ablility left England captain Billy Wright tackling air at Wembley and helped Hungary thrash England 6-3, their first defeat on home soil. ir Tom Finney, who watched the game from the stands, spoke for everyone when he said: "I came away wondering to myself what we had been doing all these years." In his first season he scored 50 goals as he won the first of five Hungarian championships and in total scored 357 goals in 354 games. He made his international debut at the age of 18 and went on to score a phenomenal 83 times in 84 internationals.

Talking of big cars

FO 82 B was a Simca V8 owned by my father in 1959. A monster of a car to me age 14. This rather 'dogeared' photo shows it parked outside Drake Boys entrance at Whitsun (Easy Weekend) in the same year.

Humber Hawk

I noticed that you mentioned a Humber Hawk in your blog Paul. Well here's a 1963 model

He's done it all

Having seen a few great sporting persons on your blog Paul, we cannot forget the man Schumi. Love him or hate him, he has done it all and many of his records will probably never be surpassed.
